New Year's resolutions for newcomers

As the time for making New Year’s resolutions approaches, I find myself wondering what kinds of resolutions newcomers might want to make.

Since launching this job in June, I’ve been writing a lot about things newcomers can do to feel more settled in this region. Among them: Getting out to explore more. Seeking a club or group to join. Volunteering. Joining a house of worship.

I’ll weigh in with some specific resolutions in a column soon. Meanwhile, it’s your turn: What resolutions should newcomers make to feel at home here?

And for more on the fun side of New Year’s, here’s a link to our list of New Year’s Eve parties around the region.

Hey Losers !!!!
I have lived here since 1987 and I don't want people to move away. The city keeps getting better everytime more people with different backgrounds move in. That's what makes it a "city".
This place is nowhere near as boring as it was 20 years ago.
If they all move away I will be stuck with your boring a$$es ................ and no bagels / pizza.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you Newcomers !!

WELCOME !!!

I have lived here since birth. I have a big problem with newcomers who move to this city / state and complain. Nobody begged you to come here. If you don't like it, GO HOME!!! It won't hurt my feelings any.

New York, New York
Does it burn like
All the stars light
Do you love when I take you up there

New York, New York
Does it feel right
Does it taste like

New York, New York
Does it burn like
All the stars light
Do you know my name
Do you even care
Do you love when I take you up there

Baby won't you take me there
Make it like you really care
I am feeling good up there
Just keep the diamonds in my hair
Make me feel good right now
Like everything does in this town
Lines of snow and popping corks
Money, drugs in old New York

I welcome anyone who can come here and be pleasant. But if you want to move to my town and whine about how bad it is, go home. We didn't ask you to come here and we won't cry if you leave! I am plenty hospitable to those who have manners and decency. But there is a limit to my hospitality. I have learned a little from my New York transplanted neighbors!!!

Southerners suck !!!! PERIOD. Biggest back stabbing, two faced hypocrites to walk the Earth.
That's why they don't like Northerners. Because they tell them like it is and they can't take it. Bunch of babies. Grow up and get a back bone.

Isn't it nice when someone moves from one place and immediately starts telling the locals how bad/stupid/ignorant they are?

Happy Freaking New Year to you, too, jerk.

I wish my great grandfather would have executed all the southerners right after the civil war but he was ordered to cease and desist; My great grandfather Hiram U. Grant showed mercy in the South after the Civil War and this is the tanks we Northerers get. Fine

I dont think Charlotte is a bad town , its a bad mix of people. To much culture clash and I would hate to see the Southerners lose another civil war; not many of them left as it is.We could always pick up where we all left off 150 years ago. Southerners starving and cold , disease and famine. Its a shame about all the hatred.

LOOKS like Charlotte missed the Southern Hospitality book when they passed it out down here. signed Yankee

Lots of Southerners leave the South and come up North to have a real job abd wealth; As a Northerner we didnt tell them to return home and scream and cuss them out ; Those Southerners were smart they left cheap pay and non-union States to make a better life than worker for the RICHER than hell Southern Blue Bloods.

Most Northerners come down here and buy a House in ballantyne and great areas paid in cash while Southerners cant even make a decent living in the good jobs down here. Thats why we need Unions in the Governmnet right now to offset the economic imbalance; Most Police , Sheriffs, and Teachers and on and on and on dont make enough to keep up with all the inflation thats happened in Charlotte. We are asking the AFSME Union to offset this imbalance. signed Northerner

If Southerners dont like the flooding of Northerners coming down here they need to contact the local Governmnet and start complaining to them ; they send pamphlets to Northern States encouraging Northern Money here to offset job loss in Textiles , Furniture and tobacco.

LOOK both of Southerners and Northerners shut your" PECAN PIE WHOLE " My Great grandmother was born on the Cherokee reservation and this was once all the Cherokees land ; Look what happened to us . I dont hate anyone for what happened in the past and we welcome as many as the resources can withstand.

Due to an inability to stay on topic, we're going to take a break from comment-posting until after the New Year. Hope everyone has a great holiday and I'll look forward to more dialogue in 2007.

Lots of Southern women want to leave their Southern husbands and be with Northern men these days; We have tons of money and paid off houses and Southern women have said " We are better in bed " now that I dont have facts on, but I do know , most Northerns are married and most do have big wallets and big mouths , just kidding. sign Northerner.

In the North where Im from , Citizens dont just stand there and take their elected leaders word for Gospel; We check up on them and if they dont tell the truth and do right we fire them. Southerners all their life have been told if you dont do this you will be excommunicated from the group, church, MASONS , you get the picture; In the North we press our Governmnet to do the right thing for the Citizens or else. Thats the diffrence.

HEY HOW ARE YOU" "HEY HOW ARE YOU" HEY HOW ARE YOU" this chant goes with a popular rythmic Cherokee beat; Hi folks My Great grandmother was born on the Cherokee reservation to a chief; I havent found out yet but it may have been Chief Janaluska the infamous chief who went up against Andrew Jackson. I just wanted to give you all a warm welcome to all my brother and sisters from all over the Country as you all probably have a drop of Indian blood; If all of you would visit the museum in Cherokee someday you will find a map of the U.S. and see all of the U.S. was inhabited by some kind of INDIAN tribe. Indians were everywhere on this land. Once you were crossed blood outside with any other culture you were still welcomed and part of the Cherokee family , no matter what you looked like. So, I welcome all my brothers and sisters to this great land. And bring plenty of trading goods ,its exspensive now.
