More free outdoor concerts!
As some of my recent columns have shown, there’s a lot of free fun stuff going on around this region if you know where to look.
We recently published our second annual list of free outdoor summer concerts around the region. They happen in parks, plazas and shopping centers. They’re so plentiful that they’re one of the reasons I can’t accept hearing "There’s nothing to do around Charlotte." If you feel that way, you’re just not looking.
Since my list ran last Monday, I’ve gotten word of additional events. In addition to the four new ones listed below, I’m told there will be regular concerts at NoDa in north Charlotte and Baxter in Fort Mill, just across the S.C. state line in York County, but they haven’t sent me details yet. If you know of more, keep sending them and I’ll keep updating this list.
Mecklenburg County:
Blakeney, Live Music on the Village Green, 7-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights at the shopping center at Rea and Ardrey Kell roads in southern Mecklenburg. (No contact information available, but see info about the center at www.shopblakeney.com).
Burke County:
Valdese, Family Friday Nights, 7 p.m. Fridays through August 31. Town parking lot next to Wachovia bank. 828-879-2129, www.visitvaldese.com
Gaston County:
Belmont, Concerts in the Park. Every Saturday night in June at 7 p.m., Stowe Park, 24 South Main St. www.belmontparksandrec.com, 704-825-8191.
Stanly County
Albemarle, Thursdays at the Station. May 17-Aug. 30, 8 p.m. at Market Station on West Main Street. www.stanlyarts.org, 704-982-8118.

Ashville Has a BLUEGRASS band every weekend downtown also; Hey LIEGH Hows come Charlotte dont have a BLUEGRASS opr Dixie jazz Band playing downtown every weekend like ASHVILLE DOES; Y'all dont want to destroy your roots do ya Y'all. If you PLAY they will come; In PIGEON FORGE every week end Tennesseers do a clogging and have a BLUE GRASS at least Charlotte should have a DIXIE LAND BAND; Even the Yankees may start dancin ' and not at the shot of Bullets at their feet for a change .
Hey Liegh why dont they have a re- enactment of CORNWALLIS verses Charlotteans or Maybe a civil war re.enactment downtown or maybe People dressed up like Civil war soldiers downtown Confederate and Union or maybe just Confederate with little Southern belles walking the streets in Southern dresses and umbrellas like the Old days;
Why not have a Dixie jazz band downtown like Louisiana has every week end.
Why would we want bluegrass, cloggers or Civil War reenactments in downtown Charlotte? Please! That stuff is so hickish!
If one were really impressed with Asheville's musical offerings, they would learn to spell the city's name properly.
Hmm... in reference to your previous topic - yes, what a difference a decade makes, but obviously it is not enough. Looks like it might take another decade or two before we can get rid of the ignorant hicks such as the first poster of this thread.
And by the way, this isn't TENNESSEE. If you want to enjoy your redneck rituals you can stay there.
